The concept was to use a set of modular units to create different programmatic spaces within the apartment complex. These 13’ by 13’ modules are each different based on programmatic need. Each material is meant to evoke a different experience as one walks from one room to the next as well as to highlight the different degrees of privacy from the outdoor spaces to the bedroom. Attached to each living space and bedroom, there is either an outdoor garden or terrace. This serves primarily to make the building more porous by allowing fresh air in an out of the building, as well as to take advantage of the southern Californian climate which allows for outdoor living.
